Village of St. Helena Council Meeting

June 16, 2011

Present were Mayor Robert Barnhill, Ron Rampone, Neil Benton, Jim Davis, Nancy Jones, Willie Knowles, R. H. Corbett, and Louis Hesse.

Attending the meeting was Judy Katalinic.

Mayor Barnhill called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M.

Willie Knowles prayed.

On motion by Willie Knowles, and seconded by Ron Rampone, minutes of May 19, 2011 and June 9, 2011, were approved unanimously.

On motion by Willie Knowles, and seconded by Ron Rampone, the financial report was approved unanimously. 

Louis Hesse discussed the soccer park planned at the end of Memory Lane.

Judy Katalinic wondered about the traffic it would create on Memory Lane.

On motion by Nancy Jones, and seconded by Ron Rampone, the 2011-2012 budget was approved unanimously.

On motion by Ron Rampone, and seconded by Nancy Jones, it was unanimous to purchase property for $60,000.  Closing costs would be paid by seller.  Attorney Corbett is to prepare an offer to purchase.

Ron Rampone suggested that Hutchison be considered for clearing the property.  Willie Knowles gave preliminary estimates from Hutchison.  The debris and buildings could be burned or hauled off.  Hauling to Sampson County would cost $650 per load.  Mayor Barnhill commented that concrete blocks would be recycled at a place on Highway 421.  The cost to take down or burn two buildings would be $5500.00  Another building would cost $2200.00  Hauling 18 or 20 loads @$650 would cost $11,700 to $13,000, Nancy Jones recommended it be put out for public bids.

Mayor Barnhill said that the property needed to be purchased first.

Mayor Barnhill announced that he would run for reelection as mayor for another term.  Wille Knowles, Nancy Jones, and Ron Rampone also plan to rerun as council members.

On motion by Willie Knowles, and seconded by Ron Rampone, the meeting was adjourned unanimously.
