MINUTES Village of St. Helena Town Board Meeting July 17, 2014
Present were Mayor Robert Barnhill, Judy Katalinic, Neil Benton, William Hunter, Nancy Jones, Louis T. Hesse, and Nathaniel Coleman.
Attending the meeting were Alice Southerland, Kaye Knowles and several members of Kaye’s family, and Prudencio Camposeco.
Mayor Robert Barnhill called the meeting to order and prayed.
On motion by Nancy Jones, and seconded by William Hunter, minutes of June 14 and July 10, 2014 were approved unanimously.
On motion by Judy Katalinic, and seconded by Neil Benton, the financial report was approved unanimously.
Kaye Knowles applied for the vacant seat on the council. It was recommended that she be appointed.
On motion by Nancy Jones, and seconded by William Hunter, it was unanimous to appoint Kaye Knowles to fill the vacant seat on the council.
Kaye Knowles was sworn in as a council member by Mary Bakan, Village Clerk.
Louis Hesse explained that the Planning Board was still working on the minor and major subdivisions.
Nathaniel Coleman said that there were still some concerns about the Ben Everett property.
Prudencio Camposeco came to the council meeting making a request to have the property problem resolved. This needs to be handled by lawyer to lawyer.
Alice Southerland told the council of an exhibit at UNC-W called “From the Volga to the Cape Fear.” It covers some St. Helena history.
Alice then mentioned a book titled ME AND JOHN WAYNE WON THE VIETNAM WAR by Robert M. Barnhill.
Alice also said that more St. Helena history books might be available depending on the cost of printing.
Judy Katalinic commented that the July 4 issue of the News and Observer newspaper had an article about St. Helena.
On motion by Nancy Jones, and seconded by Judy Katalinic, the meeting was adjourned unanimously.
