Village of St. Helena Town Board Minutes December 17, 2020 Present were Mayor Robert Barnhill, Mayor Pro-Tem Judy Katalinic, Councilwoman Margaret Brinzey, Councilman William Hunter, Councilwoman Kaye Knowles, Councilwoman Nancy Jones, Village Clerk Mary D. Bakan, Planner Kim Rivenbark, Village Attorney Nathaniel Coleman, and Building Inspector Louis T. Hesse. In the audience were Mrs. Robert Barnhill (Cornelia) and Mrs. Louis Hesse (Robin). Mayor Robert Barnhill called the meeting to order and led the prayer. Pledge of Allegiance was said to the U.S. Flag, and a salute was said to the N.C. Flag. On motion by Nancy Jones, and seconded by William Hunter, minutes of November 19, 2020 were approved unanimously. On motion by Kaye Knowles, and seconded by Margaret Brinzey, the November 2020 financial report was approved unanimously. On motion by Nancy Jones, and seconded by Judy Katalinic, it was unanimous to have the gutters at the town hall cleaned at a cost of forty dollars. Louis Hesse gave an update on the new solar farm. The company used lime to try to dry out the soil. Louis recommended more rock be put at the entrance. Nathaniel Coleman is working with three subdivisions. The properties are Kreech’s, David Moore’s, and Charles White’s. Mayor Banhill brought up changes to be made at Westgate dealership. The company will downsize with new plans and permits. Mayor Barnhill announced that the Village of St. Helena has received an ABC check for $8,442.83 for the July, August, September 2020 quarter. Mayor Barnhill has been in touch with a contractor and is awaiting a cost figure for the new town hall. Mayor Barnhill thanked the group for doing a great job this year since it has been a trying time with Covid. Judy Katalinic mentioned that GFL has increased the recycling fee on their bill. William Hunter recommended that a porch light be installed. William Hunter also pointed out that the outdoor security light is not working. Judy said she will contact Duke Energy about repairing the security light. Nancy Jones presented Mayor Barnhill with a flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol on Veteran’s Day in his honor because he served in Vietnam. Nancy had help from U.S. Representative David Rouzer (R-NC) who included a letter with the flag. On motion by Margaret Brinzey, and seconded by Kaye Knowles, the meeting was adjourned unanimously.
Refreshments were enjoyed by all after the meeting.
